The arc fully fragments: each squad member now alone with a monster, the relay structure complete. Kiba and Akamaru, bleeding, gamble everything on dropping themselves and their enemies off a cliff; Naruto and Shikamaru press toward the front where Sasuke's barrel nears the border. 'To each his own battle' is the episode's thesis — five children scattered across a forest, each holding a line so the promise reaches the gate. Help is coming from an unexpected direction, but the map says it arrives too late.
