With Naruto pinned under Pain's chakra rods, Hinata Hyuga steps onto a battlefield she cannot win and explains, calmly, why she is there anyway. Her confession — 'I love you, Naruto' — lands mid-combat, decades of the series' quietest subplot spent in one breath, before the Deva Path slams her into the dirt. What erupts from Naruto in answer is the six-tailed transformation: the Nine-Tails' skeleton wrapping him as the seal tears open, and Pain's plan to motivate his capture succeeds beyond any sane intention.
